I don’t really know exactly what stood out in my mind about this most exceptional bus tour but I’ve listed below some of the experiences which made it so special. Robert Wilson (Fun Tassie Tours) runs a very intimate little bus tour business which showcases the best of Tasmania. We were given a great appreciation of the historical, social, agricultural, architectural, manufacturing, mining, artists and flora and fauna. Maybe the stand out day was when Robert showed us the fairy penguins, herding us all down to the sea in the dark with his special torch and detailed instructions as to how we were to behave and not get in the way of penguins, this was so exciting. Maybe it was the day that he has us crawling around in the long grass trying to sneak up on the wombats for a great photo or the amazing bbq dinner he personally cooked and hosted for all 10 visitors at Cradle Mountain. No, for me it was when Robert jumped over the roped off area at the Wall and took not just us but everyone else who was there on the day for a guided tour of this exceptional art space. The Pied Piper is probably the best analogy that springs to mind as he brought the story of the carvings to life for us all. Kindness and thoughtfulness as shown to each and everyone on the trip, you’ll have a treasure of a time with Fun Tassie Tours. Regards.

It has been a long time back from the Tasmanian trip, I would like to let you know I really had a great time.
After visiting Tasmania, I went to Melbourne & Sydney. And I have edited a video, that I would like to share my happiness with you.
The first 1/3 part was shot in Tasmania.
I joined the tour, Tasmania In Circle – 6 days, in early March. Although Robert is originally from Queensland, he knows everything about Tassie and many people there. The 6 days were full of different experiences and Robert did everything he could to keep the group comfortable and happy. He even prepared an excellent barbecue dinner for us so that we could have a local experience.I will highly recommend Robert if you want a small group and unique experience in Tassie at a reasonable price.

Timely, extremely interesting, Robert is so knowledgable about history, explorers, flora, fauna. Thinks nothing of stopping on a dime to let us see an echidna by the road that he spotted. Saved us spending $30 each when at Bicheno to see the little penguins – took us out around 8:00 pm and we got to see about 30, some one nests, marching in from the ocean. We saw chocolate factories, honey production, eucalyptus oil, Mt. Wellington, Cradle Mountain, cave with glow worms, and so many waterfalls, small hikes to wonderful views, and amazing things, not even listed in the itinerary on his website. He included about 30% more stuff to see, than was listed and we loved every minute. Highly recommend this tour. In 6 days we travelled 2000 km in a comfortable van and just had a blast! Thanks Robert. You are so passionate about Tasmania and its history and peoples.

We have just had a whirl wind tour of Hobart and surrounding area with Andrew of tassie tours, how enjoyable and interesting both he and the tour turned out to be,Being a local he was able to take us to places that the big operators wouldn’t get to,Being Scottish he took us to The Lark Distillery which was fascinating and informative and we enjoyed a couple of wee drams .We would love to visit Tasmania again and would have no hesitation in recommending tassie tours for a longer trip thanks Tom Martin and friends

My ten year old son and I recently had a marvellous time on the 6 day/5 night circle tour of Tasmania. This is a really comprehensive tour which shows you all the main sights but plenty you would not expect to see also. Robert is friendly, considerate and well versed in all things Tasmanian. He expertly guides a well thought-out and superbly timed expedition, making use of all parts of each day to show interesting sights, feats and history. Suitable for all ages, I can’t recommend this highly enough. You will leave feeling you know so much about this amazing island and I can guarantee you will have seen things others won’t have.

An excellent tour, I would highly recommend this tour. There were 9 people on this tour for 3 days then 4 people for the remaining 3 days. The vehicle was a 12 seater mini bus. Being a single traveller I felt very comfortable on this tour and the pricing was very good. The tour guide/driver Robert is very professional, patient, friendly & knowledgeable. You get to see a lot Tassie each day as the days are full, there are many stops made and plenty of photo oppotunities. We made stops to see wildlife on the side of the road (Echidna, Wallabies, Wombats) and were able to get up close to get some great photo shots. The motels were of good quality, with breakfast included. Lunches were varied each day. The BBQ dinner at Cradle Mountain is a highlight.

We went for the 5D4N tour from Hobart to Launceston, and we highly recommend it ! Robert is an exceptionally knowledgeable and patient guide, and obviously very passionate about Tassie; that translates to the various unscheduled stops that would have not been possible to visit with other bigger tour groups. He ensured that we got out the most of the trip – learned a lot about the history of the places/towns we visited, and saw a lot of wombats and wallabies in the wild, little penguins trekking to their nests and (probably poisonous) eerie blue mushroom growing on an old dead tree; these are the things we appreciated most during the trip. We truly enjoyed the trip, and we might actually be coming back during summer!

I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to our tour guide Robert. He is patient, knowledgeable and professional. He drove us to the attractions safely. I had a great time in Tasmania. I joined the 5 days 4 nights tour and I highly recommend this. If I have the chance to choose again, I would even choose 6 days 5 nights.
Jason – 2016
The night at Bicheno Robert brought us to watch penguins walking on the way back home. He drove a long day and stayed and found – penguins. We really appreciated his professionalism and he was always attentive to our needs. Brian Chee – 2016
Robert would have to be Tasmania’s best ambassador & we just lucked it with choosing Fun Tassie Tours. We normally would have done a fly drive but decided after reading the reviews that we’d give this small bus tour a go. We are so glad we did, Robert is as others say very knowledgeable, kind, thoughtful, brilliant bus driver and every other lovely description but no one has actually nailed it, he’s got that little extra something which is unique, don’t ask us what it is but he’s got it.
I feel quite emotional remembering when Robert jumped behind the rope barrier at The Wall & proceeded to give us a personal commentary on the amazing wood carvings, then in Pied Piper fashion had managed to attract the interest of absolutely everyone else there on the day & they too followed him in silence & listened to his every word as he brought The Wall to life, that was an experience that I’ll never forget.
Ann – 2016
I took the 6 day circle tour. Robert, who owns the company and is the guide, is wonderful. He loves Tasmania and he loves his job and is extremely knowledgeable. It was like visiting your uncle and having him take you around his home town. At every stop he knew the people. He could tell you the local history, but he could also tell you that the water in the dam was higher last week and that the couple who own the motel have 3 small kids and bought it two years ago. A lot is packed into a day. One of the more unusual stops was at a dairy where the cows decide when they want to be milked. There are no people involved at any point in the milking process.
We got back late on the last day. Two of us had booked rooms at the airport instead of in Hobart. Robert insisted on driving us the 20 minutes to the airport rather than dropping us off at the bus terminal.
Mark – 2016
I was travelling on my own and wanted to see the East coat of Tasmania. I did not want to drive myself or go on a large bus tour and this seemed like a good idea, I was not disappointed. There were myself and 3 other people on the tour and Robert the driver/guide was excellent, he was obviously well known at all the places we made scheduled stops. The unplanned stops were amazing e.g. one day we pulled over by the side of the road to see an echidna walking along in plain view – for me it was small things like this that set the tour apart.
Jill – 2016
What a lovely way to get a good look at the East, North and a bit of Mid Tasmania! As the country makes it easy to be mesmerized by beautiful things, it was great to have a knowledgeable, organized yet warm host like Robert (with a surprise visit by his lovely wife!). So many breathtaking landscapes to see, so much delicious local food, so much history! And indigenous animals, in the wild!
