Day One – Tour Hobart, Port Arthur – L
Pick up from your Hotel in Hobart and drive to the top of Mt Wellington (1270 m) for spectacular views in all directions. After a short drive to explore the City, (Australia’s second oldest) and see historic convict built buildings and walk Constitution Docks. We then proceed to the historic sandstone town of Richmond to see Australia’s oldest bridge, a beautiful stone arch construction from 1823 and still in use. It’s then on to the Tasman Peninsula for more spectacular coastline of Tasman National Park and its sea cliffs from the lookout over Pirates Bay. We then cross Eaglehawk Neck the site of the infamous Dogline. Next, see the nature’s wonder – the Blow Hole, Tasman Arch and Devil’s Kitchen. Overnight Port Arthur.
Day Two – Tour Port Arthur, East Coast, Bicheno – B/L
Visit Port Arthur world heritage Historical Site for a guided walking tour to learn about the convict history of Tasmania, followed by a harbor cruise to view Port Arthur as incoming convicts would have. Learn about Point Puer, the boys prison and the history of the Isle of the Dead. A short visit to a boutique chocolate factory “Federation Chocolates” and taste unusual flavors (such as apple). Leaving the Tasman Peninsular for the picturesque East Coast. Stopping on the way to see the unique convict built Spikey Bridge and view the amazing coast from Spikey Beach. Next is Swansea – a beautiful East Coast town. Arrive in Bicheno. An optional penguin tour is available in the evening, or we can walk the rocky headlands at our leisure, and hopefully spot penguins coming ashore. Overnight at Bicheno.
Day Three – Tour Bicheno, Bay of Fires, Launceston – B/L
See the amazing Blow Hole on the rocky coastline of Bicheno. Visit the multi-award winning East Coast Nature World, wildlife park, at feeding time for iconic Tasmanian Devil. Learn about this amazing animal and its struggle for survival, pat wombats and hand feed wallabies and kangaroos. Enjoy traveling Tasmania’s most scenic coastal road, with breathtaking views of the east coast en route to the granite rock coastline of the Bay of Fires, and one of Tasmania’s best beaches, Bingalong Bay. Visit a working oyster farm, see their farming techniques, and enjoy the freshest possible oysters. Drive towards Launceston and visit Pyengana, the award-winning cheese factory and dairy. We then proceed through an ancient Myrtle Rainforest and cross the trail of the dragon, an old mining area centered around the town of Derby. The carved memorial trees at Legerwood are on the last leg of the trip. We then arrive in Launceston at about 17:30.
Day Four – Tour Launceston, Cataract George, Ross & Oatlands.
A short drive through downtown Launceston on the way to Cataract Gorge a fantastic urban wilderness, only minutes from the city, where we stroll around this reserve. Then Drive South down Midlands HWY to Evandale Home of Annual Penny Farthing Championships.
Onto Campbelltown To See Australia’s oldest Highway bridge still in use (convict built).
Lunch In the historic town of Ross, and visit the famous Ross Sandstone Carved Bridge 1836.
Onto important historical village of Oatlands boasting Tasmania’s largest clusters of Georgian buildings at around 90 structures including the magnificent Callington Mill built 1837.
Arrive in Hobart approx 5.30pm for any CBD Hotel drop-off.
